Clara Lanyi holds degrees from the University of Colorado, Alfred University in New York and the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Using a wonderful array of forms, Lanyi conjures up images that suggest both the worlds of Hieronymus Bosch and Jules Verne.  Augmenting her highly personal vocabulary of form with richly glazed surfaces, she speaks of both contemporary and deeply personal concerns.  Her work catches and holds our attention on that finely calibrated line between seduction and intimidation.
