| The
entry drive into Paradise Ridge Winery takes you past Paradise Meadows
where three large multi-colored sculptures come into view. They
are the three-piece sculpture series, “A Brief History,”
by
Bay Area artist, Gale Wagner. As you continue up the road, other
sculptures appear until you reach the
wooden glens of the Paradise Ridge Sculpture Grove, where you can
wander through the grove on
simple footpaths and view an annual exhibition of magnificent sculpture.
This year’s show, “Energy and Elegance,” was curated
specifically for this site by Gwenda Joyce. The sculpture is placed
in spaces
created in and amongst the trees to allow you to appreciate the
artwork up close in a natural setting. Further along the road on
both sides many more sculptures selected by the winery can be viewed.
The result is a growing collection of sculpture that is reaching
the status of an outdoor museum. Rather than acquiring a permanent
sculpture collection, Paradise Ridge Winery seeks to support the
arts by creating a contemporary exhibit space where art, ideas and
nature converge, offering visitors of all
ages a space for inspiration and contemplation.
